"DON'T BLAME THE DEVIL"

Hang on to your seat as Pat G’Orge-Walker spins a hilarious, inspiring novel of mistakes and second chances, heartache and love, sin and salvation…

Appearances mean everything to Delilah Dupree Jewel. So after hearing of her daughter-in-law’s sudden death, Delilah decides that coming to the rescue of her long estranged son Jesse and her granddaughter Tamara would be a good look . . . though Lord knows she’ll have to dig hard to find her maternal instincts.

But Delilah quickly discovers Jesse wants nothing to do with her. And Tamara, who’s following in Delilah’s musical footsteps, isn’t interested in her career advice, especially since Delilah got ahead using the singing couch. And Delilah’s old flame Deacon Pillar, an ex-convict who’s traded in his gangster ways for a Bible, is stirring up a past that’s sure to shock. Now, all Delilah knows is that she’d better hold on to her faith, ’cause she needs God now more than ever. . . .

Somebody's Sinning in My Bed
Pat G'Orge-Walker delivers a wickedly funny, uplifting novel of love and betrayal…good karma and bad karma…sin and redemption…

Chyna and her sister Janelle are always moments away from a catfight. They love each other, but Janelle has never forgiven her sister for swiping her first love, Cordell. That was ages ago, and now Chyna is showing off as the First Lady of New Hope Assembly, a church that’s caught between the old ways of Holiness and new ways of serving its community.

New Hope’s leader, Reverend Grayson Young, is also caught…in the infamous Sweet Bush lounge, an establishment well-known for adult pleasures.

With the church congregation running wild in the aftermath of her husband’s scandalous behavior, Chyna turns to her sister Janelle for guidance. But if Chyna thinks she’s getting sympathy from Janelle, she’d better think again, because Janelle’s got her own crisis.

And when Cordell suddenly comes back into the sisters’ lives, what follows are squabbling, chaos, and surprises that show just how hard the road to salvation really is…

Excerpt
"Cordell DeWitt was not only Chyna's ex-husband but also had been Janelle's first and only true love. Her soul mate, she'd thought at the time. Actually, she hadn't changed her mind about that. He was still that. She'd chased her lost love for him from bed to bed since he'd left her for Chyna.

Never finding what she'd had with Cordell made Janelle wild. She wore infidelity almost like a badge of honor every time she'd committed adultery with someone's husband or stole a man. She was doing to other women what she'd felt her sister had done to her. She'd kept up her reckless behavior even after months of pleading for forgiveness from Chyna. Eventually she'd finally forgiven Chyna for marrying Cordell, her Cordell. Or perhaps she hadn't."

Somewhat Saved
In her latest, most soulful and side-splitting send-up of church life yet, Pat G'Orge-Walker's hilarious cast of parishioners battle their worst vices, the funny and serious sides of aging, and each other.

Mother Sasha Pray Onn and Mother Bea Blister live on the edge-of Christianity, that is, and they're about to knock Sister Betty off her sanctified perch. As the senior citizen matrons of the Ain't Nobody Saved but Us-All Others Goin' to Hell church, their devotion to the Lord must compete with their passions for gambling and grudges against each other. But their long-held animosity is about to be complicated when the new pastor, the Reverend Leotis Tom, wants to reorganize the Mothers Board in time for the upcoming Las Vegas Conference and asks a reluctant Sister Betty to run for President.

After a scuffle at a secret Bingo game at the No Hope Now-Mercy Nevah church, the bumbling Reverend Bling Moe Bling pacifies Mothers Blister and Pray Onn by giving them two tickets to Las Vegas where the annual Mothers Board Conference will be held. In Vegas, Mother befriends a destitute young woman named Zipporah who does something no one has ever been able to: touch Mother Blister's heart. But in trying to help her, Mother Blister finds out Zipporah's past might be at complete odds with Mother Blister's present.

As the chaos and comedy get out of hand, so do the questions about who is who, who did what to whom, and where and when. Just as surprising are the answers, which show that despite everyone's best-or worst-intentions, from cradle to grave, it's God who is ultimately in charge.

Publishers Weekly Book Review
In the latest loving church spoof from G'Orge-Walker (Sister Betty! God's Calling You, Again!), Sister Betty and her fellow evangelists get shipped off to Las Vegas to attend the evangelical Mothers Conference. After Betty and her two nemeses, Mother Sasha Pray Onn and Mother Bea Blister (about whom the Reverend Bling thinks to himself "Doggone Alzheimer's gonna make those two old crones destroy my place of business"), arrive with much hullabaloo, Bea spots someone she recognizes but can't place. The narrative then shifts to Zipporah, a beautiful homeless woman, and G'Orge-Walker expertly balances touching emotion with the ladies' antics as Zipporah gets a job that eventually leads her to the ladies and learns some things about herself in the process. Bickering, gambling and comeuppance are all on the agenda as the crew, far from the Pelzer, S.C., parish whence they came, negotiate Sin City. (Apr.)

Cruisin' On Desperation
In this sidesplitting send-up of church life, a hilarious cast of God-fearing, husband-hungry parishioners embark on a mission that's sure to give new meaning to the term man hunter.

The members of the Oh Lawd Why Am I Still Single church group have gathered to complain about the slim pickings in their little town of Pelzer, South Carolina. And newcomer Birdie Tweet may offer just the opportunity they're looking for.

Birdie's love life has been as unpromising as the other women's until a recent phone call from Lyon Lipps, an irresistible Afro-Latino hunk. Unbeknownst to Birdie, he's also a con artist who has seduced countless women. Now he's found Jesus and wants to reconnect with good Sister Tweet. But when Birdie passes around Lyon's photo, which is actually his mug shot, several in the group recognize him. With each tale, Birdie's hopes for romance die, and her anger is resurrected.

The ladies devise a plan for revenge while improving their chances of meeting men. They're going cruising aboard the aptly named ship, Desperation of the Seas. And they're planning to trick Lyon into sailing along with them. Soon, they're riding a wave of bickering, betrayal, and unholy behavior, with plenty of laughs-and a few genuine revelations-along the way.

Sister Betty! God's Calling Your Name
Sister Betty always wore a big cross hung around her tiny wrinkled neck, carried a much too big Bible, and constantly smiled for no apparent reason. The children had heard that no matter what the situation was, she would just clasp her petite hands together, look up toward heaven, and give you a smile. Sometimes while laying her hands on your head and praying, her false teeth would fall forward. Before they hit the floor she would snatch up the teeth by their metal hook. She'd put them in her pocket and keep right on smiling showing her pink rubbery gums. Every so often, she mumbled some words that she claimed only her and God understood, but would benefit whomever she prayed for...

Sister Betty hasn't been the same since God called her on the phone back in '84. A devoted member of Ain't Nobody Right But Us—All Others Goin' to Hell Church, she's always looking after the welfare of her fellow congregants. It's a big job, considering they're none too good at looking after themselves—or each other. With an ATM and a Blessing Dispenser in the church vestibule, and Sister Ima Hellraiser in her path, Betty's got her work cut out. Still, doing His will is what it's all about for Sister Betty and seven of her most hilarious and inspirational adventures are gathered in Sister Betty! God’s Calling You, Again! a soulful treat from Pat G’Orge Walker for fans of God, gospel, and good times.

As the Bible thumpin', don't-you-dare-sass-me Sister Betty, Pat G'Orge Walker performs at churches, universities, writers' conferences, and on Chicago's WYCA radio. Now, she brings Sister Betty and her adventures to a wider audience with this uplifting collection of tales and spiritual teachings, straight from Pelzer, South Carolina and the Ain’t Nobody Else Right But Us—All Others Going to Hell Church.

Mother Eternal Ann Everlastin's Dead

Spiritually uplifting and knee-slapping funny, Pat G'Orge-Walker's Sister Betty and her fellow parishioners discover what matters most on bumpy road trip to Baltimore.

Sister Betty barely has a minute to sit and fan herself before she's off on another "Mission from God." Her friend Mother Eternal Ann Everlastin' has dropped dead on her seventy-first birthday from an overdose of York Peppermint Pattie, and it's up to Sister Betty to see to her final wishes, namely, traveling to a Baltimore religious conference to deliver three one-million dollar checks to three different mega-church pastors.

When the Reverend Knott Enuff Money hears that Sister Betty is about to give away a substantial amount of Mother's riches, he wants in. But finagling the money out of Sister Betty right under the noses of three genuine men of God is going to be the biggest challenge the Reverend has ever faced … one that just might set him on the path to reclaiming the true spirit of faith.

"Christian comedy fiction at its best."
-Library Journal

"This novel is the best of its kind, and it's easy to see how G'Orge-Walker has carved out a comfortable niche for herself as the queen of gospel comedy literature."
